Your biggest opportunity is Zimbabwe- Robert Kiyosaki

Earlier on this year Robert Kiyosaki, the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad was in South Africa addressing a conference of estate agents. He had some interesting advice for them with regards to investment and wealth creation. According to the multi millionaire, Zimbabwe is the place to look if you are seeking to make money.
He acknowledged that there is so much money in South Africa, but its concentrated in too few hands that have a stranglehold on that country’s wealth. “Your biggest opportunity is Zimbabwe,” he said. “That’s a rich country.”

He went on to say that what was currently happening in the country was unsustainable. “If I were your age, I’d be holidaying in Zimbabwe, watching and looking for something going on now. Zimbabwe is a very well educated country.. Very.”

“… the rest of Africa going to change as Zimbabwe changes.”

Kiyosaki, who said that the secret to his success was that he hung out with rich people advised those present at the conference to stick to their guns, because “this is where the losers will lose and the winners will win.”

He also put forward the notion that a person’s job does not make them rich. His take on it is that: “It’s what you do in your spare time that makes you rich.”

“The first thing that I recommend to young people is to be an apprentice. Find someone that’s successful and carry their bags. If you don’t have any money to invest, then inivest your time. I spent years studying under my Rich Dad before I did anything. It’s the way you learn: The apprentice-mentor relationship.

I have to second Mr. Kiyosaki’s notion… As a young person who came back to Zimbabwe after going abroad for univeristy I came back and gathered 5yrs of priceless experience in the IT sector. I was exposed to areas where anyone else my age would not have been exposed to. If you don’t have the resources invest the time, that’s one thing young people in Zim need to appreciate today.

And despite the politcal, economic and social environment in Zim at the time and right now. I’m all the better for it. But one things for sure… like the Governor of California once said “I’ll be back!”.
