Does ZanuPF need its own Sarah Palin?

I didn’t bother listening to anything the Republicans were saying up until August 29th when John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his pick for Vice President. My first reason for stopping was that this was a major point in the Presidential race, as had been Obama’s pick of Joe Biden barely a week earlier on August 23rd.

A young beautiful female Secretary General or Vice President would help ZANU (PF) not only to raise money, but to give a fresh youthful image to the line-up of party personalities.

The second reason I stopped was that I had never heard of this woman. I immediately googled her- as did millions of other people.

The third reason I stopped was that after googling, I found some pictures that made me ogle. I’m not saying Hilary Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and Angela Merkel are not pretty, but they are not exactly model material and in my head they make up the picture I have of a female politician in the west.

Then came Sarah Palin. Like I said I ogled. This was no politician. This was a beauty queen who at 44 years of age still looks like she could enter a pageant and win.

The thing is- and here’s the thing- I was not the only one who ogled. Around the world MILLIONS of people took second and third looks at the Sarah Palin pictures that came out in papers and on websites- and that’s what has made all the difference.

It’s long been common knowledge in advertising that an advert with a beautiful woman will get more attention than a similar advert a different picture. Sex, subconsciously and otherwise, sells. Period. The Republican party has, perhaps unknowingly, latched onto this.

In an instant Sarah Palin had star power. According to a Reuters article, Karen Bard, an eBay spokeswoman, said the number of Palin related items on the auction site has shot up since John McCain named her as his running mate.

“The day after McCain popped the big question to Palin, 105 Palin items were listed on eBay. With the momentum from the Republican National Convention, Palin items took off peaking at 554 listing in one day,” Bard said. A check by Reuters found 1,500 items related to Palin for sale on eBay.

The buzz in online forums is infectious, with debates raging on different Palin related issues, although some say the Sarah Palin effect is starting to wane. The fact is people are talking and that’s the important thing.

So I was just thinking, after hearing that ZANU (PF) is trying to raise funds to bolster its coffers, that perhaps they need their own Sarah Palin. A young beautiful woman who they can give a really powerful post like Secretary General or Vice President.

This would help them not only to raise money, but to give a fresh youthful image to the line-up of party personalities. Around the world political leaders, business people and decision makers from all fields will stop and give this party of the revolution second, third and fourth looks.

Palin’s pick has also bolstered support for the McCain camp with white women and independents. His backing among white women has jumped four points in Ohio and five points in Pennsylvania since the announcement (The Telegraph, UK).

A ZANU (PF) beauty could do the same to increase support from not just Zimbabwean women, but young people and men as well. If she can dance like Sandra Ndebele- even better for the male-interest factor. Ratings for the party will shoot through the roof…

I don’t think those guys would ever consider this. I think for some time now Vice president Mujuru is the closest we will come to Sarah Palin.

Men! Instead of seeing Sarah Palin for who she is, they decide to stop at her beauty. It will be a sad day for the world if McCain becomes president because he has a beautiful “babe” at his side.

Good idea, but can you find a pretty face in ZANU? All i know are tired, ageing women’s league members. Maybe it would have worked if Sisi Amaizing Grace was not the first lady.
