The Miss Tourism Harare finals, themed Face of the Sunshine City, are on this weekend at the Rainbow Towers (Harare International Conference Centre)- on Saturday evening.

A bevy of twenty will beaut it out for the coveted title which has seen many former holders go on to becoming Miss Tourism Zimbabwe and travelling around the country and the world. Brita Masalethulini and Angeline Musasiwa immediately come to mind.

The Harare contest is one of ten provincial events that will send three finalists each to the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe final later on this year.

According to the Sunday Mail, Miss Tourism Harare director Debra Chidavaenzi was quoted as saying: “We have gone through thorough auditions to come up with the final 20 girls and we are convinced that most of them make the cream of beautiful girls in Harare.” - I think she needs to walk through town to see that the REAL CREAM of beautiful girls may not be in the pageant.

Tongai Moyo, Sulumani Chimbetu, Dino Mudondo, Ex-Q and Madiz are some of the entertainers who will perform at Saturday’s pageant.

The original number of contestants was about 80 girls who attended auditions in August. The fact that the organisers have worked with the girls prior to the final, groomed them, narrowed them down to the twenty best and done some community work with them means that FINALLY we can even start to talk about a pageant that looks for beauty AND brains.

I hope you’re right about beauty with brains. In the past it’s been a lot of things that have made girls win and brains hasn’t been a major factor in the judging.

You cannot ask someone one question on stage and hope to judge their IQ by that.
