Twenty year old Vanessa Sibanda is Miss Tourism Harare 2008-2009. She was crowned the new queen of the Sunshine City at 0205 hrs this morning (Sunday 12 October 2008)- If I was a journalist wouldn’t the Ed be just so proud that I captured so much detail…
Vanessa came top out of nineteen contestants who took part in the pageant held at the Harare International Conference Centre. First Princes was Hilda Mabu and the Second Princess, Tendai Rukwava. Sezeni Moyo was chosen by the other contestants as Miss Personality.

The poorly attended function- I reckon about 500 people turned up- only started after 2200hrs when the advertised time was 1830hrs. Despite that, the models put on spirited performances backed up by entertainers Madiz (how on earth do you spell that?), Suluman Chimbetu and Tongai Moyo.
Some of the contestants during the evening wear category. Other categories were culture wear, safari wear and initial parade by the models in similar yellow dresses.
Vanessa is no stranger to winning beauty pageants. Her previous titles are Miss Queen Elizabeth 2003, Miss Harare Junior 2nd Princess in 2006 and Miss Tourism Harare 2nd Princess last year. Her modelling home is Model Management International. She is currently studying for an IT qualification.
In a write up on the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe website Vanessa says that she hopes to be the best that she can be in life and a good role model for young people one day. She wants to study for a Diploma in marketing as her ambition is to become a Marketing Executive.
The top five contestants today will compete in the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2008 final to be held at the same venue on December 6th.

Yes indeed the editor would be mighty pleased with the fotografy. I noticed Barney Mupariwa was one of the judges. That dude took the then Mvengemvenge to new heights back in the day
The editor should be highly pleased by how you took a potentially frustrating 4 hour delay and turned it into a humourous and engaging piece of journalistic work. I really enjoyed reading this and yes the amount of detail is impressive!
@Shingairai: Well, I used part of the four hours to catch up on some much needed sleep. It’s a good thing I actually woke up when Suluman and his band started playing otherwise I may have missed the show and been fired by the venerable editor
