CHIPAWO (Children’s Performing Arts Workshop) was founded in September 1989 and turns 20 next year. On 30 October this year (2008)CHIPAWO will kick off its celebrations with a Launch and a series of events during the year leading up to the big birthday.
The Launch will take place at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare on Thursday, 30 October at 5.30pm.
Planned for the event are an exhibition - to run through to Saturday, 2 November - a short video documentary, the launch of the new CHIPAWO Website (hopefully) and selected performances and testimonies.
Other events are being planned not only for Harare, leading up to the Gala Concert next year. The theme is going to be something about ‘a place to stay’.
CHIPAWO has been scattered and renting for 20 years. Children have never really had a place to come to and say this is CHIPAWO. The need for a home will therefore be the focus. We think that the children deserve it.
