Thank God It’s Friday

These days, Fridays are not as ‘kicking’ as they used to be. However, Zimbos are ‘fun-loving’ people. Regardless of the escalating cost of the ‘wise waters’, and soft drinks, Zimbos just buy.

Go to any joint in Harare, check the number of people present…and buying. Talk of Mereki, Globe Trotter, Mtangaz, and the many clubs, bars, bottle stores and beerhalls. Zimbos love their ‘peace of mind’.

Indeed, many now afford just one or two, hence the decrease in the number of people hanging around at these sort of places. A friend of mine in the diaspora hinted, “Zimbabwe is the only country I know where one can spend US$100 per night.” I went to as many places last weekend, and they were selling a full  chicken for US$8 on average. A six pack of beer/ drinks fetches for US$10.

A couple of years back, one would buy one or two rounds of drinks for friends, or even strangers without straining his/ her wallet. Now, there is budget. Many do not have enough to ‘enjoy’ the night away.

Another sad thing…the $50 000 dollar note at the bank, after which you’d have queued for 3hours or more. The note can’t even buy a drink, worst a loaf of bread. So  sad.

I don’t want to spoil your weekend, but I know you have the ‘ma greens and marara’ (US$ and Rands). Burn them guys, and enjoy your weekend. Tosangana mudhorobha imomu.
