Car jackers and a piece of paper on the back window
I received this by email today and am not sure if it applies to Zimbabwe or South Africa- or both…
Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it off after I got home, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car. Then we received this email yesterday:
WARNINGÂ FROM POLICE
THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN ANDÂ MEN
BEWAREÂ OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE– NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT AÂ JOKE) Read more
Clare Nyakujara- Jazz Has a New Face
On Friday 6 February (2009) The Mannenberg Jazz Club proudly welcomes Clare Nyakujara and The Other Four for an exciting performance of afro jazz at the Fife Avenue late-night venue which features Zimbabwean jazz artists regularly. Clare will perform under the banner of the Female Literary, Arts & Music Enterprise (FLAME), a Pamberi Trust project.
Every child dreams of being a star and Clare was no exception, starting out at the age of 10 in the church choir, and soon making her way to ‘the front’. In 2002 she became exposed to different types of music and found herself drawn to jazz after listening to Zimbabwean artists of different jazz styles – Luck St Blues, Dudu Manhenga & Color Blu, and The Other Four. Over time she joined Dumi Ngulube & Amagents, Mateo (of ‘Pamuhacha’ fame) and Dino Mudondo, on backing vocals, performing with them at HIFA, the annual Winter Jazz Festivals, club and corporate gigs, and giving vocal support to other up and coming young groups in the capital. I long to accomplish great and noble tasks
I long to accomplish great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to
accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble.
The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes,
but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.

Worst-case cholera scenario getting worse

A nurse takes care of a child cholera patient (WHO/Paul Garwood).
JOHANNESBURG , 26 January 2009 (IRIN) - Zimbabwe’s worst-case cholera scenario, as predicted by the World Health Organisation, is likely to be surpassed within a few weeks and there are still about two months of the rainy season left.
In December 2008 the WHO said cholera cases could balloon to 60,000 before the rainy season ended in March 2009, but Gregory Härtl, spokesman for the organisation’s Epidemic and Pandemic Alert and Response office in Geneva, told IRIN that as of 25 January, 53,306 cholera cases and 2,872 deaths had been recorded since the outbreak began in August 2008.
Cholera, an easily treatable waterborne disease, thrives in poor sanitary conditions and is expected to remain a feature until Zimbabwe’s rainy season subsides. Read more

Husband shop opens in Harare
A store that sells husbands has just opened in the Harare CBD , where a woman may go to choose a husband. Among the instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates. You may visit the store ONLY ONCE !
There are six floors and the attributes of the men increase as the shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch… you may choose any man from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building!
So, a woman goes to the Husband Store to find a husband.
On the first floor the sign on the door reads:
Floor 1 - These men have jobs and love the Lord.
The second floor sign reads:

Interview with Dumiso Dabengwa
Interview broadcast 22 January 2009
SW Radio Africa journalist Lance Guma yesterday spoke to former Home Affairs Minister, and now interim leader of the recently revived ZAPU party, Dumiso Dabengwa. Why did he decide to leave ZANU PF and support Simba Makoni’s bid for the presidency last year?
Lance also finds out why Dabengwa and other ZAPU members have moved out of the unity accord, signed in 1987 with ZANU PF. Dabengwa now criticizes Mugabe for using violence against his opponents, but there are accusations that he sat through torture sessions of MDC activists himself, at the CIO headquarters in Bulawayo’s Magnet House.
