I am Zimbabwean

The eyes that gazed upon a star

Brought houses of stone into being

Sojourners across the water, land afar

Many rivers crossed,  searing vision

Dreams of stone, across ages remain

Standing still, brooding over time

Defying tide, a legacy, proudly yours and mine

I, scion of the hands that hewed stone dreams

Chevron and herring songs

Rhythms that echo across valleys

Speaking-rising bones

Freedom- dreaming in time’s belly

No wonder a new year, new day finds me standing still

Soul so strong, spirit tempered by a steel- will

I am, I am Zimbabwean

Scarred but still whole, undefeated

Burning and- a- looting, a-wheeling and a- dealing

Flood upon flood of inflation

Bonfires of vanities and putrid hatred

Could not bring the glorious house of stone down

I am stone house, house legacies of stone in my heart

Braveheart, optmism personified, source of strength inside, unknown

I am

I have been

I will alway be

Zimbabwean

Then, now and forever, Amen
