Eatout.co.zw is a website where prospective restaurant clients can search for various restaurants across the country by cuisine, location or range. Restaurant owners also get to have a web presence.

Owned and run by Harvest International, the website is still in astringent testing and will be launched on the 13th of October this year.

According to the restaurant guide director Joseph Bunga, restaurant maps are made available on eatout.co.zw using google maps and GPS co-ordinates.

“It’s a very exciting and new feature for local websites. It simplifies the locating of restaurants. The feature is exceptionally effective, most unique and useful,” he said.

Google Maps is a web mapping service application and technology provided by Google, free (for non-commercial use), that powers many map-based services, including the Google Maps website, Google Ride Finder, Google Transit, and maps embedded on third-party websites via the Google Maps API.

It offers street maps for traveling by foot or car.

According to Bunga, the website mainly targets people with internet access, who go to restaurants, secretaries who make reservations for their offices or management and restaurants and hotels who recommend the website to their guests.”

“Restaurant owners are able to log in using password protection in which the information is approved by the administrator and verified before it is made available to the public.

“The public benefits from the website in that they get a preview of the preferred restaurant before they actually get there, write reviews and share experiences,” he said.

Bunga hints with the website, he would like to contribute towards the improvement of service standards and increase in revenue for the food and beverage sector.

Future developments to eatout.co.zw entail a centralised call center, online booking facility and mobile site.
