Act your way to success
“… A nap here, a nap there, a day off here, a day off there, sit back and take it easy-do you know what comes next? Just this: You can look forward to a dirt poor life with poverty as your permanent house guest.’ Proverbs 24:30-34(The Message Bible)
The most horrendous temptation that haunts humanity today is the temptation to sit back, relax and let nature take its course. Sadly, some of our spiritual leaders have also come to accept this and are always claiming “God has ruled”. As a result, this has inhibited humanity’s ability to grow because when we don’t act, we are bound to shrink.
Each one of us has dreams, dreams to be successful, dreams to be healthy, dreams to have a wonderful marriage, to be loved, to love, to have wonderful kids, the list is endless. Dreams are a natural gift from God and he gives them in huge proportions. It is however up to us to act on those dreams and bring them to fruition. It’s a two way thing; God gives you dreams and you act upon those dreams.
Our nature as human beings is to act. Its natural to us. Kids who aren’t even aware of their surroundings understand this secret. When they are hungry, they make all the noise possible to prompt their mothers to feed them. It is pointless to have dreams when those dreams are not being worked on. You have to go all out and literally catch those dreams and force them into reality.
When we don’t act, nature will act upon us and impose on us things we do not want. It works the way breathing works. When you stop breathing and fighting your way through life, nature will act on you and decompose you. In the same way, when we don’t act, we are bound to decompose and shrink. There is no way humanity can sit comfortably at one level: we are either growing or shrinking, period.
Contrary to popular belief, acting on our dreams is not being pushy, arrogant, rough or obnoxious. It is knowing exactly what you want and acting get it. Organizations look at this quality as much as they look at the qualification themselves. They do this because despite an individual being highly qualified, if this quality is non-existent that person cannot act on the organization’s mission hence the organization will be wasting its resources by hiring that individual.
We, however, should align our actions to right thinking and motives. When we don’t do so, we end up being pushy, and obnoxious which at the end of the day compromises other aspects that lead to a meaningful lives such as successful human relationships. Remember, someone said “no man is an island unto himself”!
In order to turn your dreams into the physical and present, you need to take initiative. Initiative is tied strongly to knowing your strengths and talents. You have to know what your capabilities are and act in line with them. You can’t take action on things that you cannot do. A friend of mine seems to have understood this principle. He has had dreams of becoming a popular musician and went from one record company to the other looking for a record deal and couldn’t find any. After deep self-searching he found his true calling, producing music. Judging by the achievements he has had today, I can safely say he is on the road to becoming the popular musician he has always dreamt he will be.
What are your dreams? Are they aligned to your strengths and talents? Take action upon them and they will come to fruition. This week remember that taking the initiative on your dream solves your problems instead of making you the problem.
To a Stronger you
