Profile: MEMORY DETE WAS BORN on 12 January 1975 at Dombotombo Clinic in Marondera Town, Zimbabwe. She is the second of four daughters, born to the couple, Lazarus and Mavis Dete. She attended Courteney Selous Primary School and Girls High School and although she trained to be a journalist, she did not branch to mainstream journalism after her graduation in 1996. She has worked for the following Non Governmental Organizations in information and documentation positions: Zimbabwe Women Writers (ZWW), Southern African Research And Documentation Centre – Women In Development Southern African Awareness Programme (SARDC-WIDSAA) Federation of African Media Women – Zimbabwe (FAMW-Z) and Zimbabwe Publishing House (ZPH) as a publishing assistant. Currently, she is employed by Innov8 – The Motivation Company, whose purpose is to be a catalyst for creating greatness in Africa by equipping people with innovative resources for greatness. For as long as she can remember, Memory could not resist putting pen to paper and she has found that writing gives her a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment and that it gives her an outlet for self-expression. Spoken words are not her medium and she finds that through her writing it is easier for her to express the many reflections of what is deep within her soul and this has helped her to understand the deepest issues in her own personal life. Memory has not only been an ardent writer but also an avid reader and she enjoys reading historical and Christian fiction as much as much as writing it She has a strong interest in writing about developmental issues, especially those that affect women and which depict issues of women’s empowerment. She definitely writes for women since she writes about things that are important to women and in her novels she depicts strong and assertive female heroines. Historical, Christian and Women’s fiction, best describes her writing genre and her writing is a blend of real life happenings and the imaginary. She has published several short stories and contributed articles to various newspapers and other magazines in Zimbabwe. She has also edited a number of indigenous Christian book titles which were authored by local Christian authors and she has assisted a number of companies to establish their in-house newsletters. As she expresses her love for the Lord through her writing, Memory Dete, aims to carve a niche for herself in Christian publishing rather than in physically preaching the word. To give character to the people who live in her literary world and in her world of imagination, she, uses a blend of real people and imaginary characters. Besides her writing endevours, Memory Dete enjoys the outdoors, travelling and sight-seeing and spending quality time with her beloved daughter, Vimbainashe/Ashleigh, who was born on 13 October 2001.
