I following Pastor Tom Deuschle’s blog www.reformationreport.com . There a number of fascinating posts. One of the recent posts is called ‘Have your say’. Its about the constitution, it encourages people to participate in the constitutional review process, I like the way he ends it.

”For Zimbabwe this is a critical time in their history and could set the course of the country towards greatness or towards what we have witnessed in most of Africa: Lawlessness, and all of the social and economic woes that accompany such a spirit.”

Have your say in a better Zimbabwe!

The Bally Vaughan lion who lost his roar

It is eleven pm at the Bally Vaughan Sanctuary and twelve hours since I returned from my honeymoon. As our trucks come home from a day-long mission sourcing food for the animals, the throb of the diesel engines mask the ubiquitous night chorus of a thousand syncopating crickets and tree frogs. Three massive cow carcasses need to be processed immediately; dinner for two weeks for our many predators at the Sanctuary, and as I help load sacks of meat onto on of our elderly, rust-riddled wheel-barrows, I watch my French-manicured fingernails flick off one by one into the gore.

At 2am I fall into bed, only  to be woken an hour later by the frantic ringing of the cowbell on my gate. A gigantic python has just seized a goat on the other side of the river. We race down to the water’s edge and see the python half out of the water, with a still-writhing goat clamped between its jaws. As we approach, it sinks beneath the surface, pulling the goat with it and we spend the next hour thrashing about in the freezing cold water trying, to no avail, to locate and rescue the goat. Rumbi Katedza’s new website brings Zimbabwe film to one place

Rumbi Katedza

Zimbabwean Filmmaker, Rumbi Katedza has launched a new website that archives information on the Zimbabwean film industry. The Zimbo Jam caught up with her and found out more about this new project.

Tell us about the idea behind the website?

ZimbabweFilm.com is a labour of love that I am so proud of. Having worked in film for well over a decade now, I have had the opportunity to travel to many festivals and film markets, and everywhere I go, people are pleasantly surprised to hear that there actually are films being made in Zimbabwe.

Unfortunately, as is the case in other African film industries, it is very difficult to access our films because of poor distribution networks.

ZimbabweFilm.com is a platform to market films and filmmakers from Zimbabwe so that people can learn about their work and access their films. It is a site where filmmakers can network, and ultimately, the website is there to encourage increased production opportunities in Zimbabwe. Read more

My unborn child

My unborn child
An African fetus
Rocking the belly
As I watch the telly
Born out of this madness
A militant child
Baby of the revolution
Hear my nation cry
As another brother/sister dies
I am having visions of political prison walls
And I hear the call of angels
like doves cry
Will I die tonight
Only God knows
Where life goes
After a revolution
Will a nation
Die of starvation
Or will new politicians
Take us to a new millenium
A nation of thirteen million
Let me breathe
For this poetry could be my death
