Coronation Day
The 23rd of Temqt or 2nd of November is the most important date of the Rastafarian Calendar. It is on this day in 1923 A.M (Amete Meherit, “the year of Mercy” i.e. the Ethiopian Calendar) that Ras Tafari Makonnan, 225th scion of an unbroken line that descended from King Solomon of Israel and Queen Makeda, also known as the Queen of Sheba, was crowned Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Light and Saviour of the World, Elect of God. BAFA 2008 gets Harare dancing
Hararians put down their burdens last week for the Buddyz Annual Festival of the Arts held in the Harare Gardens. On the last two nights, Saturday and Sunday evening, the atmosphere was electric as Rute Mbangwa, Dudu Manhemda, Mambokadzi, Reverb, Jiggaz, Winfree and Edith katiji entertained the excited crowds.
Of local festivals disrespecting local artists
I note with great displeasure that at all the local festivals I have attended, foreign artists get the red carpet treatment whilst our own shero/hero artists get the backhand treatment ranging from non-payment of performance fees to zero star accommodation. I reckon it’s about time local artists formed a movement that protects them from such. Let’s hear what you have to say…
