The biggest liars

My friend Lucia otherwise affectionately known just as Lulu amongst my group of friends is the best cook I have ever known. Not that she is a tough contender for Jamie Oliver; No. The only thing she can make properly is a not-so-good cup of tea which makes you ask, aren’t there a lot of six year olds who can make better things? However, despite her kitchen woes, there is one thing that I know my friend can do well, cook lies. The lies that she tells are capable of up seating the best politicians from their thrones, Obama included.

Lulu has met Joe Thomas, flirted with Chris Brown, stayed in China and can speak Cantonese to prove it (bits and pieces, yes-something she learnt from her Chinese boyfriend). I mean, she has done everything that is so cool that some of us who have parents in poor retirement can only do in our dreams-wildest that is. Tell ma, how many Zimbabwean kids can one meet on the road who have a private pilot’s license let alone a drivers license? Read more

Deliver us from Facebook, amen

I have nothing against social network sites having been on MySpace for close to a year now but I have always had this thing for Facebook. To say I hated it would be an understatement; I loathed it perhaps more than I hate AIDS. The dislike went on to the extent that I would give everyone who was on the network a long good lecture. Whether it was too my disadvantage or not I dont know, but soon everyone got the hang of it and stopped telling me they were on facebook. Can you believe that even my best friend hid it from me for two years?

Whenever I surfed the net, I would make sure that the site was nowhere near my URL address bar and I would groan and moan especially in internet cafes where every Tom and Dick would be logged on. You know, its as irritating as walking out of your house with a confident gait in your new Guccis, Prada and Armani only to find that everyone is putting on the same thing. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t Facebook supposed to be used by people of a certain social standing who are in a certain age group? What then happens if a granddad is the number one user? As someone involved in IT, I try by all means to convince other people to do likewise. It is said Zimbabwe, and Africa as a whole lag behind in ICT usage. According to Zimbablog,”It is said that less than 2% of ALL content on the web is from Africa.” Does this mean Zimbabeans or rather Africans resist to change?

Early this year, I was having a meeting with one big dhara in the tourism sector. I wanted to offer him online marketing services. He seemed not to be in the room and nodded all the way till the meeting ended. At the end, I was suprised when he simply said, “Send an email to my secretary and she will print it for me to read.” I looked around his office and noticed the dude had no computer on his desk.
