Thank God It’s Friday

These days, Fridays are not as ‘kicking’ as they used to be. However, Zimbos are ‘fun-loving’ people. Regardless of the escalating cost of the ‘wise waters’, and soft drinks, Zimbos just buy.

Go to any joint in Harare, check the number of people present…and buying. Talk of Mereki, Globe Trotter, Mtangaz, and the many clubs, bars, bottle stores and beerhalls. Zimbos love their ‘peace of mind’.

I want to live

October 28, 2008 · Posted in Poetry · Comment

I woke up this morning and decided it would be the last

I will control my destiny and make my wishes come true fast

Hold my hand so I can take you there,

And together we’ll get to share eternal bliss,

And smile too, something we’d began to sorely miss,

No more tears for me and you to shed,

Ecstatic that we will both wake up dead

24 of life’s best!

Recalling Kwame Nkrumah

“Countrymen and women, the task ahead is great indeed, and heavy is the responsibility; and yet it is a noble and glorious challenge - a challenge which calls for the courage to dream, the courage to believe, the courage to dare, the courage to do, the courage to envision, the courage to fight, the courage to work, the courage to achieve - to achieve the highest excellencies and the fullest greatness of man. Dare we ask for more in life? ”

- Kwame Nkrumah, Address to the National Assembly. 12 June 1965

Why I keep on keeping on

Two life changing things happened to me in 2007. In March I collapsed and gained consciousness in a hospital bed. In April, the company I had worked for almost five years shut down. We did not receive a single penny. All this happened at a time when things were taking a turn for the worst in this country. It was not a good time to have bad things happening to you at all.

Yes, there were moments of despair. Tell-tale echoes of remorse and regret. But when I gained consciousness in that hospital bed, I said to myself- I will not die, I will live. That became my rallying cry. I heard it over and over in the stillness of my mind. It was a bright light that illuminated the deepest recess of my mind. I nurtured that strong will to life. And guess what, the ground is not yet above my head. Read more

What drives you? Dare to more than survive

September 2, 2008 · Posted in I was just thinking, Inspire & motivate · Comment

In life there are three groups of people, namely those who are just looking at surviving, those who want to be blessed and those who are seeking to be a blessing to others. The survivors have a shortage mentality. They see the world as a mean place where everything must be fought for. Those who seek to be blessed think of themselves and their families. For them life is about seeking comfort and personal progress. The third group is the liberated group. Those who seek to give to many through giving value. They serve others and are rewarded handsomely, usually beyond their wildest dreams and more that they could imagine. Which of these are you? What thoughts do you carry as you do your work?
