The nightmare of peace and stability in Zimbabwe
I had this dream. I was running down Samora Machel Avenue in Harare. There was this big cloud of peace, stability, media freedom and democracy running behind me. The only thing was that I was not running towards it- I was running very fast from it.
Then all of a sudden I was no longer in Samora Machel Avenue. I was running through a train in London’s Subway.
In my mind I could hear loud screams. “Metropolitan Line! Circle Line! Piccadilly Line! Victoria Line!” Over and over again. I turned- and there it was again- peace, stability, democracy- and it had Morgan Tsvangirai’s face. Read more
Terror in a time of sadza
The story on NewZimbabwe.com two days ago about a woman on an Air Zimbabwe flight who almost beat up an air hostess when she felt it was sadza time had me laughing hard.
The not so funny side is that I don’t think that this woman realises that in an age such as this, her misdemeanour can be classified very easily as an act of terror and filed in the archives of history on the same pages as activities by Bin Laden and company. Read more
Remembering Brixton
In Brixton I found my most beautiful London experience. Emerging from the Underground I was greeted by a sheer mix of races and tribes and nationalities. No tourists here. Londoners in abundance! But Londoners unlike I had ever imagined them to be. Nigerian Londoners. Italian Londoners. Egyptian Londoners. Chinese Londoners. It was like there was an equal mix of every tribe on earth!
On one pavement there was a group of Chinese teenagers break dancing to a gospel song. A few metres away were some young Nigerian men giving away Islam literature. Read more
Zim music and Rugby Festival UK
The Zim Music & Rugby Festival is a funday event aimed at bringing together the Zimbabwean community and Friends of Zimbabwe in the United Kingdom via Sport, Music and a little taste of home away from home.
The day will kick off with a rugby tournament. The competing teams will be made up of former students from Zimbabwean High Schools, so essentially it is an old boys rugby tournament. Rekindle old school memories, meet old friends and the chance to do that school war cry one more time. Read more
5000 Attend ZimFest 2008 in London
The 2008 Zimfest has enjoyed a record turnout, organisers said. The annual festival held at the Prince George’s Playing Fields in Raynes Park, London, drew 5000 Zimbabweans of all colour last Saturday. The event, organised by the UK-registered charity, WEZIMBABWE, climaxed with an hour-long performance by Oliver Mtukudzi and his Black Spirits band. Read more
