Tormented

I struggle to justify my actions,

Like he deserved to die,

Tormented by the horror of my demise,

I spend his money to try and make it right,

But my gloom returns with each passing night,

Bury me next to Judas,

For I have betrayed my kind,

Tormented a poor soul with an act unkind,

May the grim reaper come and set me free,

From the torment that is haunting me…

531 billion percent inflation- we need new text books

I understand that the latest estimates put inflation in Zimbabwe at 531,000,000,000 %! That’s astounding even for me a Zimbo through and through. I laugh when I think of how so impossible it must be for people who have never been to Zim to understand how the bleep this is can exist in parallel with an economy that somehow still clunks along. ACRONYMious? Gideon Gono does it again.

ACRONYMious? Gideon Gono does it again.

It seems that Mr Gono is in love with acronyms. The last few he has dished out: BACOSSI (Basic Commodity Supply Side Intervention), NEDPP (National Economic Develeopment Priority Programme), ASPEF (Agricultural Sector Productivity Enhancement Facility) and others have not really helped us.

One US dollar. Welcome to Zimbabwe! Oficially, that is.

One US dollar. Welcome to Zimbabwe! Oficially, that is.

Just saw on NewZimbabwe.com that Governor Gono has licensed one thousand two hundred shops in Zim to sell stuff in foreign currency. Yay! Finally, an acknowledgement that the Zim dollar is not viable right now.

Here’s the story:

ZIMBABWE said on Wednesday it will license shops to sell goods in foreign currency to help ease shortages, the clearest sign authorities are losing the battle against a thriving black market. Read more

Waking up to Harare

September 4, 2008 · Posted in I was just thinking · 1 Comment

It’s getting more and more difficult to wake up each morning. I think about the Z$500 I got at the bank yesterday. It wont buy me much. I think about the amount of money left in my account. It won’t last a week. I’m thinking of quitting my job (I hope my boss doesn’t read this- but I don’t think he will because he’s really afraid of computers). Maybe it’s time I also left Zimbabwe.
